Arlene Olson is specifically trained in:
- The unique needs of older people;
- Home modifications that can help people continue living independently in their homes longer;
- Common remodeling projects; and,
- Solutions to common barriers.
Arlene daily employs strategies and techniques to design and build aesthetically pleasing,
barrier-free living environments. Her CAPS designation also allows her to go beyond basic design to address
codes and standards, direct common remodeling projects, estimate costs, offer product ideas, and supply the
resources needed to provide comprehensive and practical aging-in-place solutions.
In
order to maintain her CAPS designation, Arlene is required to attend various continuing
educations programs, and has participated in community service projects supporting the Alzheimer Society,
Acquired Brain Injury, Habitat for Humanity, and many senior facilities.
Most CAPS professionals are general contractors, designers, architects and health care
consultants. Arlene's previous medical experience coupled with her knowledge and love for design has made
this transition to Universal Design and Barrier-Free Living an absolute joy and a perfect fit.
